Resource list
Disposal & donation resources
The fastest way to lower your moving cost: don't move what you don't need. Here's where to dispose of bulky items and donate what's still useful.
Heads up: Phone numbers and addresses below are from the legacy Superior Moving resource list. Verify by phone before driving over — some have changed since the list was first compiled.

What to do with hazardous & restricted items
Movers (us included) can't legally transport hazardous or restricted materials. These need to be disposed of properly before move day:
- Paint, varnish, solvents — LA Sanitation hazardous-waste roundups (free for LA residents): LA SAFE Centers.
- Propane tanks — return to a propane supplier or refilling station for proper handling.
- Ammunition & firearms — LA City sponsors gun buyback events; check with LAPD for current schedule.
- Bleach, pool chemicals — household hazardous waste; dispose at LA SAFE Centers, never down the drain.
- Lighter fluid, gasoline, kerosene — household hazardous waste collection only.
- Batteries (especially lithium) — Home Depot, Lowes, Best Buy accept batteries for recycling.
- Electronics (e-waste) — California-licensed e-waste collectors take TVs, computers, phones. Best Buy accepts most consumer electronics.
Garage sale resources
For items that still have value, a garage sale 2–3 weekends before your move can offset your moving cost. Saturdays and Sundays from 10 AM to 4 PM are prime time. Advertise dedicated ads for furniture, appliances, and significant items separately from the general garage-sale ad.
- Craigslist — LA garage sales
- YardSaleSearch.com
- Local Buy Nothing / neighborhood Facebook groups — increasingly the most active venue
- Nextdoor — neighborhood-specific selling
USPS change of address
USPS Mover's Guide — file at least 2 weeks before move day. Includes a packet of mover-specific coupons and offers.
Need bulky items hauled instead of donated? We don't run a junk-hauling service, but most LA residents qualify for free LA Sanitation bulky-item pickup (link above). For everything else, the donation organizations above are good first calls.
